Eduardo Gomez Resendiz is the founder and director of Tequila and Mezcal Fest, the UK’s first and only festival for the best of the agave spirits. Eduardo has helped introduce some new brands of Mezcal and Tequila to the UK.
What motivated you to open your own business?
After years of experience in the UK’s spirits & beverage industry, Eduardo Gomez saw the market was geared to a form of mistaken understanding and consumption of Mezcal & Tequila. There was a complete lack of knowledge of what makes these traditional Mexican agave based spirits so special.
The aim of Tequila & Mezcal Fest is to change the appreciation and perception of these two categories, Mezcal & Tequila, that are derived from the wonderful agave, plant native to Mexico.
What specific services are offered to the Mexican community in London?
Tequila Fest offers suppliers direct promotion of their brands and an a unique promotional opportunity for the food industry, restaurants, art, music and Mexican crafts . We call on them to join us to be Ambassadors for Mexico. We have had the opportunity of working with talented people that collaborate and contribute in the production of the event. This type of collaboration has led to creating a professional skills network for the community.
What sort of future projects do you have for your company?
In the short term the ongoing project to boost consumption of Tequila and Mezcal helping existing brands and new ones who want to conquer international markets. Thanks to the success of the first Tequila & Mezcal Fest 2014, we have achieved a having second year with two hosting cities, London and Liverpool. The medium-term project is to position the name of the event throughout the UK and the rest of Europe, exhibiting throughout the year in different countries, every year.
What do you enjoy most about celebrating Independence Day?
Independence Day is certainly meaningful, is the official day to celebrate ourselves as Mexicans. There’s nothing better than enjoying it with friends, good food and of course with a good tequila!
